When faced with smart and eager students, a teacher has two choices: go through more material faster, or go through the same material prescribed by the curriculum, but deeper. In an attempt to balance the two approaches, and at the same time to get more students to develop their Mathematical thinking in a stimulating and relaxed environment, we have started this year the Math Club, first with the Middle School students, then gradually extended it to more mature Primary School students. During the meetings of the Math Club, the teacher and students work together on more challenging problems, not just harder to solve, but involving more thinking and understanding of the essence of the core material. For now we are using the Math Counts Club resources, but we plan to include materials from other Mathematics contests and Olympiads in the future.
