Living in a Natural World
One of our teachers doesn’t have to study books in order to find
out how to make cheese. His mother always made cheese with the milk from their
cow in their Romanian countryside home. Now at school he is passing on the
tradition.
It was a beautiful sight to see the whole school gathered together to do something as basic to human society as making cheese. The children were busy making Feta. What kind of Feta would it be: French, Bulgarian…”No,” they said, “It would be St. Herman’s Feta!” This is a dimension of education that we should emphasize more.
